A major seventh chord is a major triad chord (a root, a major third, and a perfect fifth) with an added seventh interval above the root:

○ Dominant 7th

   A B♭7 has an added minor seventh:  B♭ – D – F – A♭

○ Major 7th

   A B♭maj7 has an added major seventh:   B♭ – D – F – A

○ Dominant 7th Flat Five

   A B♭7♭5 is a B♭7 with a diminished fifth:   B♭ – D – F♭ – A♭

○ 7/Suspended Fourth

   A B♭7sus4 is a B♭7 with a P4 instead of a major third:   B♭ – E♭ – F – A♭
