The Whole Tone Scale

A Scale of Whole Tones

In music, the distance from any one note to the next is a half tone or semitone. Major and minor scales use a combination of whole tones and half tones, while the whole tone scale uses only whole tones.

Here's an example of a typical whole tone scale starting on the note C. Notice that, unlike major and minor scales, there are only six notes in this scale (the final note C is simply the first note repeated an ocatve higher).
