Definition: The French musical term doucement can be:

  1. A dynamics command, synonymous with doux; an indication to play softly in (p) piano.

    In phrase form, when qualified, or when combined with other commands, doucement is often changed to its synonym doux (as in fort suivi de doux or extrêmement doux).

  2. An expression term, synonymous with the Italian dolce; commands a sweet, peaceful mood. In this context, doux is more commonly used.
