In phrase form, when qualified, or when combined with other commands, doucement is often changed to its synonym doux (as in fort suivi de doux or extrêmement doux).
- An expression term, synonymous with the Italian dolce; commands a sweet, peaceful mood. In this context, doux is more commonly used.
