Definition: A bridge is:
- A unique passage that comes between and connects two distinct sections of a song; a musical “segue.” A bridge will often build anticipation for an upcoming chorus.
It’s possible for a short, well-placed movement to act as a bridge between longer movements.
- A raised bar - often of wood - that elevates, positions, and helps resonate the string(s) of an instrument; see speaking-length.
A piano has two bridges (one for the treble strings and one for the bass) attached to the soundboard.
