Definition: Staccatissimo is an indication to play with an exaggerated staccato; to keep notes very detached and brief.

Staccatissimo is marked in the following ways:

  • As triangular accents above or below notes (see picture)

  • The term staccatissimo written alongside standard staccato marks (common in hand-written compositions)
