short octave

Definition: A “short octave” was an arrangement of keys seen on early keyboard instruments, which omitted some accidentals that were less frequently used in music at the time; namely F sharp and G sharp. Short octaves were mostly used on the bass end of the instrument’s keyboard to optimize space.
