Definition: A septuplet, also “septimole,” is a group of seven notes, which fits into the length of four, six, or eight notes of the same note-value. For example, quarter-note septuplets span the length of four quarter-notes; eighth-note septuplets span four normal eighth-notes, and so on.
A septuplet is marked with a small 7 on its beam or bracket, or slur; or may be rhythmically clarified with a ratio:
