Definition: The Italian musical term scherzando is:

  1. an instruction to perform “playfully”; to play in a joking, light-hearted, or happy manner. Also known as scherzosamente.*
  2. a musical composition with a playful, child-like character (although the proper usage would be scherzo). A scherzetto is a shorter version of a scherzo.

*Scherzandissimo is a command that means “very playful.”
