(min7) minor seventh chord

Definition: A minor seventh chord is a minor triad chord with an added minor seventh interval above the root. For example:

• D Minor Seventh Chord (Dmin7):

  m3: F
  P5: A
  m7: C

This type of seventh chord is formally known as a minor/minor 7th chord, and may be abbreviated using the root note plus min7, ^mi7, m7, or -7.

Another type of minor seventh chord is the minor/major 7th chord (m/M7), which is a minor triad with a major seventh interval.
