(Maj7) major seventh chord

Definition: A major seventh chord is a major triad chord with an added major seventh interval above the root. For example:

• D Major Seventh Chord (Dmaj7):
  
  Root: D
  M3: F♯
  P5: A
  M7: C♯

This type of seventh chord is formally known as a major/major 7th chord, and may be abbreviated using the root note plus maj7, ^MA7, or M⁷.
