An augmented seventh chord is an augmented triad (which has a root note, a major third, and an augmented fifth) with a seventh interval added above the root:
◊ Augmented Minor 7th
A B♭aug7 has an added minor seventh: B♭ – D – F♯ – A♭
• (commonly referred to as simply an augmented seventh chord; in
jazz, a “seventh sharp five”)
◊ Augmented Major 7th
A B♭+M7 has an added major seventh: B♭ – D – F♯ – A
• (also called a “major seventh sharp five”)
* see double-flat
** ♯x indicates a “triple-sharp,” which raises a note by three half-steps. An F♯x is enharmonically equal to a G♯ on the keyboard.
