About Augmented Chords
An augmented chord (abbreviated aug or +) is “dissonant,” meaning its harmony lacks a tonal focal point. The intervals in an augmented triad are both four half steps, which makes the chord too balanced and causes the ear to crave a note or chord that can resolve it:
