Definition: An interval may refer to:
  1. the audible “distance” between two pitches; the range between notes on the staff.

    The simplest intervals include half steps and whole steps; a half step (or semitone) being the smallest interval in modern Western scales. An octave is a large interval that separates two of the same notes (two Cs, two Ds, etc.)

  2. a two-note chord.
