Different Kinds of Broken Chords

Downward-rolled chord.A broken chord is a chord whose notes are not played simultaneously -- a definition that can be a bit vague considering all of the options that creates.

Some arpeggiated chords are played from highest to lowest pitch, and vice versa; others may span the entire grand staff. Fortunately, there are ways of specifying in notation the style in which a broken chord is to be played:
